This amazing machine is parked outside a house in my parents town, I'm home visiting them right now and I was debating how to go back to Los Angeles and every day I pass this (it's being sold for $1500, has 140k on it) and think about how amazingly awful the gas mileage is, but how amazing it'd be to drive cross country and then take it mudding when I'm back in California.

But Why?!

I have enough automobiles now (E39M5 and 2000 Acura TL w/6speed swap) and I'm out of garage space and I hate the beige color (I already have a beige E39 dammit) but just look at it! It's awesome...it's beyond awesome...it's AMERICAN. Funnily enough, this was already sold in this area once by a college kid from texas, but it's back on sale and the 5.7 engine is just begging for "moar power"

What do I do?

BUY IT.

Great truck.

My dad bought one new in 1996 and drove it until he bought his 2011 Silverado brand new.

He misses the 2 door yukon.

Seriously he should be buying it. Honestly 1500 bucks, and it drives? Looks like the tires/wheels might be worth 1000. Roof basket is bad ass.

Paint it! Plastidip it! shit...Powder Coat it!

Just BUY IT. My dad had a bright red one with black fenders. Looked awesome.

Nothing wrong with lusting after those old two-door Yukons/Tahoes. As a kid that's what I wanted my first car to be. I might have to look around for one here shortly.

jeez didn't think this'd blow up like it did! haha the car is in Clifton Park, NY if anyone knows it's just north of Albany, just south of Saratoga.

It's parked at a daycare, the brushguard is apparently not included in the sale. But I guess that's a fair compromise

i think it's just because they're between 20-14 years old. people feel the need to dump cars after 100k miles let alone 10 years.

there really isn't much reason to get rid of a car at that age if you've maintained it properly unless it needs a repair worth more than the car or you're just plain sick of it. but I'm such an attached dude. my dad got that 2000 TL brand new and gave it to me 4 years later. Between all the cross country driving and whatnot, it has 280k miles on it, a manual transmission and overall sexiness...people STILL ask me what car it is and if it's brand new.

Good for you...

My 108K Subaru Legacy is a rattle-trap, on it's third set of dampers, needs it's third go-round of suspension bushing replacements, rattles like crazy, and I think the suspension is hammering the axle shafts, CV joints, and bearings, and the exhaust has broken free of it's hangers.

The chronic suspension problems are beating everything else on the car to death.

And the interior looks more like 180K miles than 108K.

I love the car, and have been trying to keep it up, and keep from getting discouraged with the car... but blowing an expensive bilstein rear shock in less than a year after I installed it... is not easy to keep positive about, and having to spend hundreds or more than a thousand dollars year after year, repairing things that were supposedly repaired before.

Subaru's used to be reputed for 2-300K miles, and rusting away before the mechanicals fell down... but I have heard multiple reports from people that the 2005-newer cars have had trouble remaining reliable and solid after 100K miles.

I have heard some impressions from professional mechanics that most cars designed after about 2002 having less longevity in general... which coincides with the push to keep buying cars when the economy tanked after 9/11/2001... and almost all of the manufacturers giving big incentives, and 0% interest rates to keep people buying cars... and as the dollar has been devalued, the price of cars hasn't gone up as fast as the value of the dollar has gone down... so there has to be some cost-cutting somewhere.

I suspect some materials cost-cutting affecting longevity in Subaru's case, and in the industry overall. Maybe there are some hold-outs for a few good designs with good, strong component parts, but it seems like cars are more disposable than they were, as car companies want to sell newer cars more often. Planned obsolescence. And their profit-center service departments don't mind the extra income with repairing the aging cars more often, either, I imagine.

I'd agree on principal but it's all about timely maintenance and moreover...love.

I love my TL, like to my core I love it. I actually love it more than I love my bimmer and because of that I can't part with it. It's going to be 14 years old in a few month and honestly the modifications are probably worth more than the car itself at this point. But regardless, I'll keep maintaining it, driving it once and a while (it's a top, absolutely nothing wrong with it) and it lets me wax nostalgic about a time when Acura was still making some of the best looking cars in the industry

Driving it once-in-a-while...

See, I have to drive mine every day, rain, shine, snow, sleet, or ice, over rough, midwestern under-maintained streets and highways, ~18 miles each way every day, and every road-trip.

And timely maintenance becomes a problem when it is expensive repeat repairs, and starts to actually come up against insurance, taxes, and other immovable bills.

Conversely, my 120K-mile, 1992 SVX that was neglected demonstrably by it's previous owner, still rides pristinely, (but the wheel bearings are showing signs, as they all do). There are a couple of bits on the SVX that were ported over from other Subarus that have a hard time with the loading of the bigger, more powerful SVX.

But the interior is screwed together better, and the car, aside from those known issues the rest of the car is screwed together like a tank, compared to my 13-year-newer Legacy GT.
